[USA] Banatao Filipino American Education Fund - Undergraduate/Postgraduate
More than 300,000 Filipinos make the San Francisco Bay Area their home, and 60,000 Filipino students are enrolled in local public and private schools. Although Filipino families place importance on a college education and have one of the highest levels of college graduates, very few are choosing to enter science and engineering fields and embark on careers that can be extremely rewarding, particularly in this region.
The Banatao Filipino American Education Fund was established through the Asian Pacific Fund with a private donation from Maria and Dado Banatao. The purpose of the scholarship program is to assist California high school students of Filipino heritage in pursuing a college education. The Banatao Filipino American Education Fund hopes to encourage excellence in math and science and to promote rewarding careers in the field of engineering, a field in which Filipinos are currently underrepresented.
